A Candle-Care Checklist for the First Light and Every Burn

A simple first-burn and candle-care checklist based on APOTHEKE’s guidance, with a woody Charcoal candle to explore.

A candle can change the mood of a room, but a few small habits make the experience easier to enjoy. If you’re lighting an APOTHEKE candle for the first time, start with the maker’s care directions rather than a guess about burn time.

Before the first light

Set the candle on a flat, heat-resistant surface away from drafts. Keep it in sight while it burns. Trim the wick to about ¼ inch and remove any loose wick trimmings from the wax.

Give the first burn its moment

APOTHEKE recommends letting the melted wax reach the edge of the glass on the first burn. That first, even pool helps the candle perform well on later burns. Keep the total burn within the brand’s 3–4 hour limit; extinguish it sooner if the wax has already reached the edge.

Between burns

Let the wax become fully solid before relighting, and trim the wick back to ¼ inch each time. When about ½ inch of wax remains, it is time to stop burning the candle. Those simple checks take only a moment and keep the ritual calm and considered.

A scent to start with

For a woody, moody option, the APOTHEKE Charcoal Classic Candle at WonderWall pairs cedarwood and sandalwood with smoky embers, burnt maple, and a hint of raspberry. Its matte-black vessel works beautifully as a quiet accent even when the candle is unlit.

These care steps come from APOTHEKE’s candle-care FAQ. Always follow the instructions supplied with your specific candle.
